The work was based on a drawing I made (slide 2: drawing with aquarelpencil) from the ‘Danse Serpentine’ of Loïe Fuller, an American actress and dancer who was a pioneer of both modern dance and theatrical lighting techniques, which she used to helped to spark the imagination of her audiences. Dance historian Jack Anderson remembers: “The costume for her Serpentine Dance consisted of hundreds of yards of China silk which she let billow around her while lighting effects suggested that it was catching fire and taking shapes reminiscent of flowers, clouds, birds, and butterflies."

I always love to think that abstract work recalls a wide variety of associations and inspirations in the viewer. In a way, that’s what Joïe did when dancing: surpassing reality and taking her audience to another place. In a way, that is also what I hope to be able to do for my own audience.

The work is signed at the back (as are all works by me) and will be accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.

Every work has been treated carefully with a matte UV protective coating to ensure the colors of the work stay as vibrant as when it was first made in the studio.

The work is equipped with a suspension system at the back and ready to hang on your wall.

Payments in installments is possible for this work. Contact info@angelinecatteeuw.com for more information.
